So excited about these 10 oz tumblers which I’ve decided to call The Mercury Rose Collection. This is because my son thought the marbling looked a lot like space. Which really excited me to hear. The tumblers look nothing like Mercury and resembles the Milky Way probably more. But the process is quite mercurial!

I’ve been making different versions of marbled tumblers since 2018, some are more successful than others. One way is to combine different colours of clay which have the same shrinkage rate so that they continue to bind to one another after the double firing process. Another way is to stain a white clay using powdered mineral dyes. Which is what I did with these. I dyed a white body clay with aqua blue and a rich rose and layered them together with the base colour. It’s always a surprise to see what comes out; you never know if the stains will look like after firing!

Every tumbler is truly unique.
