My name is Linh Ly. I am an artist, photographer and potter.

Starfishlyclay.com is my online shop that features my artisanal ceramic creations.

I have a BFA from the University of Calgary in drawing and photography. My photographic works have been exhibited nationally in Canada in public galleries and museums. I have received numerous grants for art from both the Canada Council and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts. My work has been included in the permanent collections of the Glenbow Museum and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

After I had children, my artistic practice pivoted from Conceptual, Installation-based Photographic works to a more commercial practice of Editorials, Portraiture and Lifestyle Photography. My photographic practice continues to evolve encompassing travel photography (@linhlyphotography) and food photography (@foodbygia) .

In April 2018, I took a pottery class and fell in love with clay. Pottery is something that I practice everyday. I love working in the studio a little everyday. Some days I’m throwing, other days I’m bisque firing, there are sanding days, days for waxing bottoms, and of course days for glazing and glaze firing. Such labor intensive work that feels both primal and mothering that makes a me so addicted to the slow processes.

I also love seeing how my skills evolve incrementally everyday. I get better at throwing, better and smoothing out details. Even after three years, I am evolving. My eyes get sharper and my expectations are slightly higher, I make more silhouettes...my gallery features the survivors and I’m so happy to share them!

My work has been published in the Calgary Herald, Ethical Entrepreneur Magazine and Eatnorth.ca.

My work is sold exclusively through my website and in my studio store. I no longer sell my works through consignment gift shops, although I have in the past. I do not do craft markets.

My bongs are available at Hemp Roots in all their locations in Calgary, Alberta.
